• 1 April (Sunday) 2012 - Change Your Smoke Alarm Battery Day - Under Australian law, all owners of homes and units are required to install at least one 9V battery-operated smoke alarm designed to last a year or longer. This national awareness day aims to highlight the importance of general fire safety and the role smoke alarms play in house fires.
   
• 6 April (Friday) 2012 - Good Friday - Public Holiday (see AU school and public holiday dates).
   
• Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race - Hosted by Queensland Cruising Yacht Club on Good Friday every year.
   
•  Redcliffe Festival of Sails - This colourful, seaside carnival runs in conjunction with the annual Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race and has over a hundred specialty market and gourmet food stalls along Suttons Beach.
