Saving Money on Food: Learn from Take-aways

Take away food is usually cheap food. Not cheap to buy, but cheap to make.  You can use the tricks of take-away shops to save money on your own food.
  • Pies. Use pastry to make a bit of filling go further. How much meat is in a bought pie?

  • Hamburgers. Make your own for the best hamburgers you can get.  Look how thin the meat is on the take-aways, you don't need any more than that.

  • Breadcrumbs. Crumbed, chicken, meats, fish etc makes it more filling.  And breadcrumbs are free!

  • Curries. Take away curry always has lots of sauce to make it go further.

  • Toasted breads. Split some Turkish bread, paninis etc, spread with some avocado, add a bit of cheese, cold cooked meat if you have some, a slice or two of tomato, onion etc.  What can seem like a special meal when you are out is also a great way to use up leftovers at home.
