Saving Money on Power
Power bills are part of life - but they don't have to be quite such a
big part of your life. You can save money in two ways - use less and
use alternate power.
Using less power.
This is fairly painless and involves changing habits. If you feel
discouraged, remind yourself of how you can enjoy your savings.
- Turn lights off when you are not in the room.
- Turn the television off unless you are actually watching it.
- Turn appliances off at the wall when not in use. Leave them on
standby wastes power. You don't need the clock on every appliance in
your house.
- Hang washing on the line - only use tumble dryers when necessary.
- Wait until you have a full load before using washing machines and
diswashers.
- Only iron things that are necessary. (This will save time and
sanity as well!)
- Cook in large batches and freeze extra cakes and meals.
- Use rechargeable batteries.
- Think before using heaters and airconditioners.
- Get in the habit of closing doors and curtains to retain heat in
the winter.
Using alternative power.
Save money and the planet by using alternatives to mains electricity and
batteries.
