Kilcoy

Kilcoy

Kilcoy is approximately 50 km west of Caboolture on the D'Aguilar Highway. Surrounded by the Conondale Range..

The nearby village of Jimna, just 40 km north of Kilcoy in the Conondale Range, boasts the highest fire tower of its kind in Queensland. Standing 44 metres high it provides spectacular 360 degree views from the top of the 241 steps.

Lake Somerset, 12 km south from Kilcoy along Esk-Kilcoy Rd, is a popular camping and picnic spot.

The Kilcoy Yowie
Visitors to Kilcoy are often intrigued by the large wooden statue of a sometimes well-endowed male Yowie. It is uncertain whether it is local pranksters or local moralists who are responsible for the removal of the Yowie's appendage.

The Yowie is Australia's equivalent of the Himalayan Yetie or America's Big Foot. Reputed to be half-man half-beast, the Yowie first appears in Aboriginal folklore.
