Feeling Rich - Feeling Poor
Do you feel rich or poor? It's all relative of course
-
some people on good incomes feel poor, others on much smaller
incomes feel rich.
How to Feel Poor
- Constantly compare yourself to people who seem
to have more than you do. The trouble with keeping
up with the Jones's is that you can always find a Jones with
more than you (apparently) while not noticing another Jones
who has less.
- Spend more money than you have. If you
spend carelessly so that you have to worry about meeting
bills, you'll always feel poor. It's not the size of the
income or the debt, it's the shortfall.
- Cut back on the wrong things. If you
have to cut back, cutting back on the wrong things will only
make you feel deprived.
How to Feel Rich
- Be grateful for what you have. If you
have a home, food, water and clothing, and access to the
internet you are better off
than most people in the world. Compared to most, you are
very, very rich.
- Spend less money than you have. If you
keep a little back for unexpected bills and emergencies,
you'll feel much more in control of your life. The buffer
makes you feel comfortable, secure and rich.
- Enjoy special pleasures. Work out what
things make you feel rich and cut back on other things so
you can continue to enjoy feeling rich.
